The November 2022 challenge for Island Batik Ambassadors was to make a stocking using non-traditional fabrics in our stockings. While my stocking is mostly green and pinks the fabrics aren’t traditional Christmas fabrics.

I decided to use some of the fabric left from the Wonderous collection that I used in my February Row-by-row challenge, there are greens and pinks and peach, and just gave a Christmas feel to the stocking.

All materials are provided free to me by Island Batik and their industry partners Hobbs Batting, Aurifil Thread, and Schmetz in my role as an ambassador.
I wanted to make something fun, but I really haven’t made many stockings, so I decided to use my Janome 550e embroidery machine and make a scrappy embroidered stocking.
I had purchased this design several years ago, from Kreative Kiwi Embroidery and made a couple small stockings for some co-workers. The stocking is called Crazy Patch Stocking. This time I decided to make the largest stocking that was available, using my 8″ x 10″ hoop. Ok, I wasn’t thinking, and it is a huge stocking. It finished at 14″ x 20″.
I think I will put it up at work, and maybe a secret Santa will leave me a big gift.
The thread I used was Auriful. I used the Auriful Color Builder set “Pink Land Iguana” that was given to my by Auriful, and some Green’s. They matched so well, and the thread works great in the embroidery machine, and didn’t break as it stitched, and looks great.

When stitching, the stockings, you create the stocking in four hoops, with batting, and add the previous part as you go along. The front is completed in the hoop.

I used some scraps of Hobbs Premium Cotton batting left over from a previous project. The batting was the perfect thickness to add a little stiffness to the stocking, as well as some definition in the quilting designs.
This really was a fun challenge, and I am in the process of making more, just a smaller size. I don’t have my Christmas Decorations up, as we traditionally don’t put them up until after Thanksgiving, but here is the completed stocking.

Disclosure: The products featured here were provided to me free of charge by Island Batik, Aurifil, Hobbs, Schmetz.
