I wrote about Day 1 Bags back in November 2022, when I found them at the Houston Quilt Festival. They are a non-profit that give Foster children who are graduating from High School a quilt, pillowcase and a personal bag with goodies. Their moto is “Dignity not Trash”.
This year I was not able to make a quilt to donate, however, I was happy to be able to help with my longarm.
Audrey Martens made these beautiful quilt tops.

I love the reverse-applique that she did on these quilt tops.

I quilted these with a pantograph that come on my new longarm with Hobbs Batting and Aurifil thread. I purchased the Color Builder set, Florence Brown, that had the perfect brown for the quilt top (6010) and the back was gray fabric, so may go-to Aurifil 2600 Light gray matched.

I quilted both with the same pantograph.

I am sure that the High-school grads that will receive these quilts will love them.
Audrey Martens bound the quilts, and made matching pillowcases. Here are pictures Audrey took of the quilts finished.

Day 1 Bags is still looking for donations for additional items and gift cards that go into the bags. They will be distributing these to students around Texas in the next few weeks. You can check them out at www.day1bags.org Dignity Not Trash.
